Starting as a political news and celebrity portrait photographer in DC, Sam was instantly drawn to wedding photography as a space to promote more inventive ideas. Sam’s focus is on photographic techniques that are deceptively simple but have the potential to transform difficult or uninspiring shooting environments into one-of-a-kind opportunities for every photo made.
I’ve just returned from Italy where I did a bunch of sessions and saw some old friends at Way Up North, which is a conference I highly recommend!
I filmed this entire session with Cloe while using Insight, so that’ll be a separate post here sometime soon. It was almost exactly a year since she and I worked together to see if Insight could work as a proof of concept!
Along the way Taylor found some time to put together a quick little Q&A walking through the streets… so, here it is!
The main questions asked in the video:
- What camera and current lenses are you using?
- What are your favorite lenses of all the lenses that you use?
- What unique characteristics do you enjoy from Canon glass over other glass?
- Outside of just cameras and lenses, what are other objects, items, or pieces of equipment that you bring to weddings?
- When it comes to creativity, is that something that drives you to create work, and what are your thoughts about creativity and its importance in wedding photography?
- Does creativity keep you fresh, or do you suffer from burnout?
- Any words of advice or encouragement to somebody that’s just getting into wedding photography this current year and looking at how to grow their portfolio and make this a full-time job?
I’ll make a separate post about it, but I also finally launched my new website!!!! It feels very good to finally have it out in the wild. The Technical / Reviews section are much more easy to navigate and search compared to my last site.

Of course, let me know any questions you have here if there are any! Enjoy.
